The dismissed president of the Catalan government renounces his re-election

To facilitate an agreement

USPA NEWS - The dismissed president of the regional government of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, who is fled from the Spanish Justice in Belgium, announced his resignation to head a new government to facilitate an agreement between the independence formations that ends the administrative paralysis of the region. At the same time, he announced that he has denounced Spain to the UN for not allowing him to continue with his secessionist project.
Puigdemont remains determined to internationalize the conflict between Catalonia and Spain and, after admitting that he will not be able to be elected president of the regional government of Catalonia at a distance, nor will he be able to return to Spain without being arrested and sent to prison, he announced that he is backtracking on his pretenses and resigns to be a candidate for reelection for the position. The objective is to facilitate the election of the social leader Jordi Sanchez, who is in jail accused of promoting the citizen revolts registered in Catalonia in the fall of 2017, in the days leading up to the vote on the Unilateral Declaration of Independence in the Catalan Parliament.
However, the Government of Spain, which intervened administratively Catalonia in application of article 155 of the Spanish Constitution, is determined to prevent by legal means that a detained or escaped separatist be elected president of the regional government of Catalonia. Leaders of the conservative Popular Party that supports the Government of Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, such as Fernando Martinez Maillo, said that "no candidate in jail or escaped can be president of Catalonia" because it would not serve to unblock the situation. And in the same sense the minister spokesman, Iñigo Mendez de Vigo, manifested himself.
Meanwhile, the dismissed Carles Puigdemont is still fled from the Spanish Justice, which has issued an arrest warrant against him if he returns to Spain. Another arrest warrant has also been issued against anti-system leader Ana Gabriel, who fled to Switzerland to avoid testifying before Supreme Court Judge Pablo Llarena. Neither of them will be able to return to Spain without being arrested and sent to prison. Faced with this perspective, Puigdemont's defense tries to internationalize the conflict. Until now it has not achieved it in Belgium or in Denmark, countries where it has tried to obtain support for the independence cause.
The last attempt of Puigdemont in search of the internationalization of the institutional conflict in Catalonia has been the presentation in the UN of a denunciation against the Spanish State, which he accuses of curtailing his rights by not allowing him to present his candidacy to the Presidency of the regional government of Catalonia and prevent a democratic vote on Catalan independence. From the Spanish Government, the denunciation of Puigdemont is downplayed, since the independence that the secessionists claim in Catalonia does not meet the criteria to be recognized by the UN and goes against not only Spanish law and Catalan laws but also the International law. For the moment, what Puigdemont has achieved is to continue talking about him and the independence cause.
