USPA NEWS - Lords Committee investigating EU/US trade deal asks: Has it stalled?
The House of Lords Committee which published a report into the prospective trade deal between the EU and the US will this week ask a senior Government official for an update.

On Thursday 26 February the House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on External Affairs will hear from Edward Barker, from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, and ask him about progress of the negotiations, as well as changes in public perceptions of the deal, both in the UK and beyond.

The Committee is following up its inquiry looking at the benefits and risks, both to the EU and the UK, of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which reported last year. The report found that TTIP was a once-in-a-generation opportunity that could be slipping away.
Questions Edward Barker, Head of Transatlantic & International Unit, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, may face include:

What is a likely timetable for political agreement, now that it might be fast-tracked in the US?
What is the state-of-play in the negotiations?
What is the US position on the inclusion of financial services into TTIP?
How has the EU position on GMO changed?
How does the crisis in Ukraine affect the issue of energy security within TTIP?
What is the level of public debate within Member States on ISDS?
What about in the UK?
What is the evidence in the UK of evolving public opinion?
The evidence session will take place at 10.05am on Thursday 26 February in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords.
