USPA NEWS - Testing has started and the official launch date for Edinburgh´s entire tramway is likely to be revealed in September 2013. The tram is proposed to operate every 10 minutes, with a journey time of "approximately 30 minutes from Haymarket to Edinburgh airport"
The rolling stock for Edinburgh trams are made by Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, better known as CAF. With a fleet of 27 and a formation of 7 articulated cars per tram with low-floor access. They have a total passenger capacity for 411 and with a maximum speed of 70 km/h (43 mph). Each tram is equipped with cab air conditioning, station announcer, CCTV: video surveillance system, radio and detection and positioning system on TPDS track, Event Recorder (OTMR), saloon ventilation / heating system, control and supervision system, on board passenger counting system, video entertainment system & suit case area (m2): 7.62. The trams are built to meet specifications set by Transport Initiatives Edinburgh Ltd.

The first section of the line to be completed was between the Depot and Edinburgh Airport, in late 2012. Using this section of line, on 19 December 2012 the first test operation of a tram operating at full speed was made. Edinburgh formerly had an extensive municipality owned tram system. Edinburgh Corporation Tramways were cabled-hauled until the early 1920s, then converted to electric traction. The last tram on Edinburgh´s original system operated in 1956.
